The science of dose
Why flow rate matters.
It’s not just how much hydrogen is delivered. It’s how quickly your tissues reach saturation.
When you inhale molecular hydrogen, research suggests most tissues — brain, liver, kidneys — reach saturation within minutes. Muscle tissue takes a little longer. But the time it takes to get there depends directly on flow rate. A lower-flow machine takes longer to saturate your tissues. A higher-flow machine gets there faster.
The peer-reviewed literature most people cite when they talk about hydrogen inhalation — beginning with Ohsawa’s 2007 paper in Nature Medicine and the body of work that followed — sits at flow rates that look much closer to 1,500 ml/min than to the 150–450 ml/min delivered by sub-£1,000 devices sold online. That is the simple reason the Nova exists: it sits within the range published research has explored, well above what most consumer devices deliver.
Once you’re at saturation, that’s where the benefit accumulates. Your cells are bathed in molecular hydrogen, oxidative stress is being addressed, and the antioxidant effect is sustained. The goal of every session is to get there — and stay there.

In a formal safety study published in Scientific Reports, nine healthy adults inhaled hydrogen continuously for 72 hours. Continuous ECG, vital signs, and full laboratory panels were monitored throughout. No adverse events. No ECG changes. No clinically significant lab abnormalities.
We reference this study not as a recommendation for duration, but as context. It is the most rigorous continuous-exposure human safety data available for molecular hydrogen inhalation — and the findings, in that study, were reassuring.

Is hydrogen inhalation safe?
The most rigorous continuous-exposure human safety data available (Scientific Reports, nine adults, 72 hours) recorded no adverse events, no ECG changes and no clinically significant lab abnormalities. Sessions on the Nova run 20–60 minutes. If you have a medical condition or take medication, we'd always suggest speaking with your doctor first.
How long is a session, and does it fit my day?
Twenty minutes to an hour, while you read, work or wind down. Many settle on around twenty. Longer sessions are fine — the machine itself is rated for continuous run of up to 8 hours.
Are these medical devices?
No. They're wellness technology. We don't make medical claims and the Nova is not a medical device.
